Assembly BOMs
An assembly BOM (bill of materials) lists the components that go into one unit of an item: its recipe. An assembly order of the item takes its components from it, multiplied by the quantity to make.
Opening an item’s BOM
On the item’s card, choose Assembly BOM (under Navigate). The Assembly BOM page lists that item’s components; add one on the blank row at the foot. An assembly order’s Assembly BOM action opens the BOM of the item it makes.
| Field | What it is for |
|---|---|
| No | The component: an item that isn’t blocked and is of type Inventory. Choosing it fills the Description and the unit of measure. |
| Description | The component’s description, which can be changed. |
| Quantity per | How much of the component goes into one unit of the item, in the component’s Unit of Measure. |
| Unit of Measure | The component’s base unit, unless another of its units is chosen. |
The white loaf’s BOM at Passion Bakery (item FG000001, one loaf in PCS):
| No | Description | Quantity per | Unit of Measure |
|---|---|---|---|
| RM000001 | Wheat Flour | 0.5 | KG |
| RM000003 | Sugar | 0.03 | KG |
| RM000008 | Dry Yeast | 0.008 | KG |
| RM000009 | Salt | 0.008 | KG |
| RM000010 | Vegetable Oil | 0.02 | L |
| PK000001 | Bread Bag | 1 | PCS |
Rules
- Quantity per can’t be negative.
- The Unit of Measure must be one of the component’s units of measure (see Items and units of measure). A recipe can say 0.5 KG of flour although flour is bought in bags, because KG is the flour’s base unit.
- An item can’t be a component of itself, nor of an item that goes into it: Business Assistant refuses a component that would make a loop.
- The component must be usable: not blocked, with its description, base unit of measure and posting groups.
Changing a BOM
A change to a BOM is used by assembly orders made after it. Orders already made keep the components they have (changing their Quantity only scales them); choosing a different item in an order’s Item No. takes that item’s components afresh from its BOM. Their lines can also be changed on the order itself.
Tip
The recipe is for one unit of the item as it is stocked. Passion Bakery’s Milk Buns are stocked as packs of 6, so their BOM says what goes into one pack.
